Pack A Carry-On Like a (Semi-) Pro

Tonight I have amazed myself.  Matt and I are heading to the Bahamas in about 3 days and we have decided to go ahead and pack.  Little did I know I’d be able to get 6 changes of clothing for both of us as well as all of the other toiletries and gadgets we will need in ONE carry-on bag and ONE “personal” bag.

Want to learn how to do this?  Check out below.

First, you may want a list of what we are bringing:
Heather's Stuff:

·       5 Tank Tops
·       1 Blouse
·       3 Shorts
·       1 pair jeans
·       4 Dresses
·       1 Bathing suit cover-up
·       3 sandals
·       1 pair heels
·       3 bikinis
·       3 bras
·       9 pairs underwear
·       Make-up
·       Toiletries
·       3 bracelets
·       1 headband
·       3 pairs earrings
·       Hair brush
·       Flat Iron
·       Cell phone & charger
·       Camera & charger
·       Kindle & charger
·       Travel wallet
·       Small wallet
Matt’s Stuff:

·       3 shorts
·       2 swimming trunks
·       1 pair slacks
·       2 undershirts
·       5 T-shirts
·       1 Polo Shirt
·       4 pairs socks
·       1 pair sandals
·       1 pair toms
·       7 pairs underwear
·       Toiletries
·       Cell Phone & charger
·       I-pod & charger
·       Wallet

First off, we decided to wear our bulkiest clothing to make sure we had plenty of space.  I will be wearing my jeans, a tank, my blouse, and a pair of heels (as well as my underwear, of course).  Matt will be wearing a pair of shorts, his polo, an undershirt, socks & Toms (and his underwear).

Now, for the preliminary packing.  We made sure to have our toiletries in TSA approved packaging and placed in a clear 1 quart bag.  I put my unmentionables in a large, red make-up bag.  The panties were rolled tightly and the bras were layered within one another to save space.  All of the make-up and jewelry went into the blue make-up bag.

Next, begin tightly rolling your clothing. This compresses it and gives you lots of extra space.  Once it’s rolled up, set it aside for the moment.

You may begin by laying the sandals against the edges of the suitcase.  We have four pairs total.

Your next step, layer your bulkiest rolled-up clothing on the bottom layer.

Your next layer should be lighter clothing and you should be able to get 2 rows out of this layer.  Continue this until all the clothes are tightly layered.

On top of the clothing I placed my Red underwear bag and the Hair Brush and Flat Iron (these 2 are not pictured currently as I will use them prior to our trip)

In the netted zippered section of the top of the suitcase, I placed my bikinis by rolling them tightly.  Matt’s socks went in one of the pockets.

On the outside top zippered section of the suitcase, we put one of the toiletry bags for easy access.

All of the rest of our items will either be on our person or in our “personal” bag.  This bag is nearly about half the size of our carry-on and not nearly full as the items placed within it are tiny.   Maybe we can pick up some nifty gifts while we’re vacationing… hmm.  A few of the items that will be placed in this bag are the travel wallet, make-up bag, second toiletry bag, kindle, i-pod, small wallet, camera, and chargers for all the gadgets.  I'm sure I missed something, but we still have a few days yet before we leave and plenty of space to put more stuff.

I hope this tutorial helped and you can pack like a (semi-)pro.
